More than a 100 police officers are to be deployed this week in order to assist in easing the flow of traffic in line with the Avurudu season, a senior police official told Times Online.
This group of police personnel will function on a 24-hour basis and will also engage in street patrols.
Further, police officers will be appointed to arrest law offenders during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season. These police officers will be clad in uniform and civil attire, the senior police official noted.
He added that they would also travel in public transport in order to apprehend those involved in acts such as pickpocketing and also acts of larceny.
