More than 1000 houses have been damaged due to the heavy winds and rain experienced in the country yesterday (Aug 9), the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
Accordingly, the DMC noted that steps would be taken to disburse compensation through the Divisional and District Secretariats of the affected areas.
The disaster management authority also forecasted that the inclement weather is expected to continue in the Western, North Western, North Central, and Northern Provinces.
The seas between Colombo to Mannar and Kilinochchi to Trincomalee are also expected to be tough over the next few days, the DMC said.
