More than 31 tonnes of narcotics of different varieties have been seized while being smuggled into the country so far this year, Navy said today (Aug 16).
Among the narcotics include 450 kilograms of heroin, 2.3 tonnes of Kerala Cannabis, three kilos of local cannabis, 29 tonnes of beedi leaves, and one kilogram of hashish.
Further, 802 narcotic tablets, 8,140 cigarettes, and 6,800 packets of 'Madana Modaka' were seized during the first eight months of this year, the Navy added.
Meanwhile, 1.5 kilograms of 'Ice' narcotics was also discovered in the Talaimannar area by the Navy today. The seized narcotic has been handed over to the Talaimannar Police for further investigations.
