Minister Sanath Jayasuriya's mother Breda Jayasuriya announced her decision to join the United National Party yesterday at a meeting in Malimbada in Matara District, local media reported. She was quoted as saying at the meeting that her family had been traditional supporters of the UNP. She said that she supported her son during the 2010 election. However, thereafter she did not vote in elections as she could not betray the UNP, she added. She joined the UNP at the request of Sagala Rathnayake, former MP from Matara District.
