Update : The driver of parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka has been remanded until January 6, 2020 on orders of the Colombo Magistrate's Court.
The order was issued after Thusitha Kumara, the driver, surrendered before court over a motor accident in Rajagiriya in 2016.
Parliamentarian Ranawaka who was remanded over the accident was released on bail this morning.
MP Ranawaka granted bail over motor accident
Parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka, remanded over a motor accident, was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate's Court today (Dec 24).
Colombo Additional Magistrate Neranjana de Silva ordered the accused to be released on a cash bail of Rs 25,000 and two surety bails worth Rs 500,000 each.
Court also ordered the parliamentarian to appear before the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) on the last Sunday of every month to record a statement in connection with the case.
Ranawaka was arrested by the CCD last week, over the accident in Rajagiriya in 2016 - a move which saw criticism being levelled against the government.
