The wife of parliamentarian Patali Champika Ranawaka's driver has petitioned the Supreme Court against an incident in which she had been forcefully taken away from her residence.
The petitioner claimed that Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) officers had forcefully taken her away from her residence in Galle to Battaramulla along with her three-month old child and her mother-in-law on December 10.
The Defence Secretary, Acting Police Chief, National Police Commission, and CCD SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, are among the 15 respondents to the petition.
The petitioner has sought a Supreme Court order ruling that the CCD's actions had violated her fundamental rights.
