General Secretary of the JVP, MP Vijitha Herath today (Dec 26) visited flood affected communities of the Kilinochchi district who were being housed in temporary shelters at several camps.
Accordingly, Mr. Herath met with victims who were left displaced following the collapse of the Iranamadu Tank on December 22, which resulted in heavy flooding.
The victims had complained that the tank had collapsed due to the negligence of officials.
They claimed that the sluice gates of the tank were opened after spill water levels exceeded two feet whereas it should have been opened much earlier.
Following his meeting with the victims, Mr. Herath then called on the District Secretary of the Kilinochchi district Mr. Suntharam Arumainayaham and urged him to carry out an investigation and adopt a relevant course of action in this regard.
