The case filed against Parliamentarian Kumara Welgama for causing unlawful loss to the government by appointing a Deputy Chairman to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) contrary to the Transport Act, will be taken up for further hearing on May 04.
This was announced when the case was taken up for hearing before the Colombo Magistrates Court today (Apr 02).
During today's hearing the Bribery Commission which had filed a lawsuit against Mr. Welgama had sought a new date from court in order to file an amended complaint. Accordingly, Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne had informed the prosecution to submit the amended complaint when the case is taken up on May 04.
Mr. Welgama has been accused of causing losses amounting to Rs 3.2 million to the SLTB by paying a salary and providing certain perks to L. A. Wimalaratne who was then appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the SLTB when Welgama was the Transport Minister.
