Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking at Narahenpita yesterday said he could not agree with certain inclusions of the 19th Amendment which was presented to Parliament. "It is not good to seek advice from the Sri Lanka Bar Association when appointing judges. How can they get involved in appointments when they have to appear before judges in courts?," the former President was quoted as saying to media at Abhayaramaya, Narahenpita, yesterday. Commenting on the SLFP MPs who have refused to accept ministerial portfolios from the government, Rajapaksa said they were the ones with backbones. He also stated that he would celebrate May Day with the working class and trade unions. "I was always with the working class and trade unions. That will not change. I will join hands with the working class and trade unions to celebrate May Day."
