Former president Mahinda Rajapksa in a reply letter to President Maithripala Sirisena urged him to respect the public opinion as he did on January 9, after the defeat at the preisential elections. He was responding to a letter sent by President Sirisena informing him that as the leader of the SriLanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and cahirman of United Peoples Freedom Front (UPFA) even if the party gets majority seats to form the government he won't be appointed him as the prime minister post. Former president Rajapaksa said he left the Temple Trees soon after the election and handed over the l;eadership of the SLFP as President Sirirsena requested.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has interdicted Colombo Fort Magistrate Kosala Senadheera.
The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
