President Maithripala Sirisena has been appointed as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) by the Central Committee of the party today. This move comes after former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's announcement that he would be handing over the leadership of the SLFP to President Sirisena. Meanwhile the Central Committee has appointed both former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chandrika Kumaratunga as patrons to the party.
