Ms Sashi Weerawansa today told courts that the charges brought against her of possessing an improper diplomatic passport were false and brought against her as an act of revenge.
The case against her for possessing an improper diplomatic passport was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratna. She has been charged for violating the Immigration and Emigration Act.
She said that soon after she received the passport she had taken steps to inform the Immigration controller that some of the data was not accurate.
She said she was informed by the Immigration controller that the diplomatic passport was not a forged passport and that she had not issue in using the passport.
Ms Weerawansa told court that she made use of the passport for five years without an issue and that soon after the Yahapalana government came into power the allegations were brought against her and she was arrested.
She said that when the allegations were made, her two children were preparing for the A/L and O/L exams and that her mother passed away few months later.
The case was fixed for October 9.
