Western Governor A J M Muzammil has instructed hospital authorities to call for quotations in a bid to restore the dilapidated condition of the Gampaha District Hospital, citing dangers that the building could pose to patients.
Issuing a press release, the Governor’s office said that Mr. Muzammil, during an inspection tour to the hospital last Saturday had identified several repairs which needed to be carried out immediately.
Among the much needed repairs included old air conditioning systems and elevators, damaged fire protection systems, and water leakage issues in the building.
Accordingly, the Governor had called for quotations to purchase three elevators and restore other damages in the building. “We cannot afford to delay these repairs since this can affect human lives,” the governor emphasised.
He added that he would seek a technical report from the Moratuwa university on the safety of the hospital building to decide on further action.
Mr. Muzammil had also urged immediate repairs to the buildings of St. Lucia’s College in Kotahena which is also in a dilapidated condition, the Governor's office added.
