Plans are underway to increase the number of national schools to 1,000 within the national schools system and establishing new tri-lingual schools to cover every district.
Accordingly, a proposal to this effect which was put forward by the Minister of Education, Dullas Alahapperuma was approved by the Cabinet.
The Ministry has planned a programme to develop three schools incorporating all facilities within each divisional secretariat division with the aim of providing free, equal and quality education to every child and increase the number of national schools to 1,000 by promoting these schools as national schools.
Similarly, the Ministry has planned has also planned to set up a national school with tri-lingual teaching and other facilities within each district.
Further the proposals aim to launch 20 such schools within the next two years.
