Two wartime chiefs of the Navy and the Air Force have been awarded honorary titles by President Maithripala Sirisena this week.
Accordingly, Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda who served as Navy commander between 2005 and 2009 has been awarded the honorary rank of 'Admiral of the Fleet', a gazette notification published to this effect read.
In addition, Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke, who served as Air Force commander from 2006 - 2011 has been awarded the title of 'Marshal of the Air Force'.
A gazette notification signed by the President in this regard said that the honorary titles had been awarded for their outstanding service during the humanitarian operation and the defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka.
