Navy personnel have commenced a special probe into the recent tensions in Kinniya following the arrest of three illegal sand miners yesterday (Jan 29), Navy Spokesman Lietutenant Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara said.
Tensions arose in Kinniya when two indivdiduals had gone missing after they jumped into the Mahaweli river to avoid being arrested during an illegal sand mining raid.
Police and STF personnel were later deployed to control the situation.
The body of one suspect identified as a 22-year old has been recovered while search operations are underway to locate the other suspect.
