The Navy rescued six local fishermen onboard a multi-day fishing trawler “Suranga” drifting 405 km East of Trincomalee due to an engine failure, a statement from the navy said. Promptly responding to the request made by Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the Navy dispatched Sri Lanka Naval Ship “Shakthi” patrolling in Northern seas to assist the trawler in distress on August 21. Upon arrival, the ship’s crew extended technical assistance, and since the attempt was unsuccessful, the trawler was brought safely to Trincomalee harbour amidst rough sea conditions yesterday after 48 hours of towing.
