The Government today (May 21) raised issue over what it claimed was an error in the date of the No-Confidence Motion (NCM) on Minister Rishad Bathiudeen handed over to Speaker by the Opposition.
Speaking after some Opposition MPs appealed to the Speaker to ensure that the NCM is debated at the earliest possible date, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella claimed the NCM submitted by the Opposition was dated 2018.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya though, said that the error in the date had been rectified.
Mr Kiriella objected to this, saying the error was a serious one. "You can make your own decision, but on behalf of the Government Parliamentary Group, I say that you can't accept this NCM," he told the Speaker.
