Opposition Leader of the Negombo Municipal Council Royce Fernando has been further remanded until August 21 by the Negombo Magistrate's Court today (Aug 7).
Fernando has been accused of forcibly entering the house of a Chinese national and attacking its residents and stealing some possessions in June this year.
He is alleged to have entered the house along with a group posing as members of the Criminal Investigations Department.
The opposition leader of the local authority is accused of stealing items worth Rs 7.5 million including a van, cash, gems, and three mobile phones.
