Shanil Neththikumara, accused of threatening the sibling of a Bond scam case witness, today (Sept 2) withdrew his request to travel overseas at the Colombo High Court.
The accused had sought permission to travel to Dubai in order to take part in this month's Power - Energy Summit, in his capacity as a public relations officer at the Ministry of Power and Energy.
However, the Attorney General had raised objections against the request, questioning the grounds on which an individual who has been accused of a serious offence, is allowed to hold office in a state body.
During today's hearing, Neththikumara had informed court that he would be withdrawing the request as his father has to undergo medical surgery.
The case was fixed for further hearing on September 5.
Neththikumara has been accused of threatening the sibling of a witness who gave evidence against Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake over the bond scam.
