The Cabinet has decided to introduce a new age limit for a child and youth by introducing amendments that would define a child.
Accordingly, amendments will be made to the Children and Young Persons Ordinance to change the definition of a child from 14 to 18. Youthful Offenders (Training Schools) Ordinance will be amended to define a youth to a person between 18-22 years of age.
At present when a person under 16 of age commits a crime, the person will be sent for a probation school while a person over 16 will be arrested and produced before courts.
