New Commissioner General of Prisons appointed
Prisons Intelligence and Security Division Commissioner Thushara Upuldeniya has been appointed as the new Commissioner General of Prisons with immediate effect, an official from the department said.
Outgoing Commissioner General of Prisons TMJW Jayasiri Tennakoon has been transferred to the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs.
Earlier President Gotabaya Rajapaksa emphasized that crimes operated by underworld kingpins and drug mafia from prisons must be put to an end without delay. “This has to be rectified. Use of mobile phones within prison premises should be completely eradicated” President criticized saying that specific information relating to criminal activities and drug peddling operated from prisons have been received.
