President Maithripala Sirisena has said that a new court would be established to hear narcotics related cases in the future.
He had made this suggestion during a special discussion that had taken place at the Presidential Secretariat regarding a bill revolving around the curbing of narcotics and prevention of crimes, this week.
During the discussion, Mr. Sirisena had said that he would take measures to table a cabinet proposal to establish a new court as intended.
The President had pointed out that the long time duration which was required to hear cases pertaining to the usage of narcotics was an obstruction to the drug prevention campaigns which are being carried out across the country.
Accordingly, he had suggested that the new court should be established within the premises of the High Court.
