The Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) has announced that it would implement a new online mechanism to obtain National Identity Card (NIC) phototgraphs as per the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
Issuing a press release, the Government's Information Department (GID) said the project would be launched in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces commencing from December 17.
According to the latest mechanism, an application will not be issued along with the hard copy of the photograph. However, a QR code which has embedded the reference number of the photograph along with the Photograph Reference Slip (PRS) would be issued to the applicants requesting the NIC. The applicants will then have to produce the PRS to the Grama Sevaka in their division. However, this process will be have to be completed within six months.
The release emphasised that photographs should be taken only at studios registered with the DRP.
For further inquiries, the public can visit their nearest Grama Sevaka Division, the DRP or the GID.
