The Government has decided to draft a new bill on obsene publications aimed at cracking down on child pornography.
Posting child pornography through information technology and other media has increased rapidly in recent years. Although the provisions are included in the Penal Code and the Obscene Publications Ordinance to deal with such matters, it appears that the provisions are inadequate to meet the present circumstances, the Government noted.
As a solution, the lnformation and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (lCTA) and the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team have prepared a document containing the information required to draft a new bill on the advice of the Attorney General.
Accordingly the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal made by the Minister of Justice, to advise the legal draftsman to proceed with the preparation of a new bill based on this document.
