A new arrangement to release information to the media by the security forces and police is to be introduced from next week, Defence Ministry sources said.
This is after the disbanding of the Police media unit.
Accordingly, the armed forces with the police jointly issue press releases or conduct press conferences, the sources said.
In the event of announcements of national events or major incidents, separate conferences will be held.
They will work round the clock to issue the information.
Over the past two days, the police have not been able to feed the media with regular incident reports which were released from their unit under the guidance of SSP Ruwan Gunasekara.
