The newly appointed five-members of the Election Commission, headed by Nimal Punchihewa assumed duties today at the Election Secretariat.
Members to the new Commission were appointed as per the 20th Amendment which mandates the President to appoint the members following the observations submitted by the Parliamentary Council.
Earlier Secretary to the Election Commission H.M.T.D.Hereath announced that he has been informed by the Secretary to the President by his letter No. PS/CSA/00/04/01/01, dated 04.12.2020 that following persons have been appointed by the President as Chairman and Members of the Election Commission with immediate effect, in terms of Articles 41A and 103(1) of the Constitution.
