A group of individuals who were engaged in illegal fishing at Kadakarauchena area in Trincomalee, were apprehended by Navy, yesterday (Apr 15).
The group of nine, aged between 19-44 years were identified as residents of Kinniya. The group is alleged to have used banned nets for fishing.
A dinghy boat, and out-board motor (OBM) and a 305 meters long fishing net of a banned variety were seized from the possession of the suspects.
The confiscated items and the suspects have been handed over to the Fisheries Inspector in Muthur for further investigations.
Naval personnel from the Eastern Naval Command had apprehended the suspects during a routine patrol.
