Former President and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Chairman Maithriapala Sirisena did not receive a Cabinet portfolio during the swearing in of the new Cabinet conducted in Kandy earlier today.
Mr Sirisena, who contested under the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) from the Polonnaruwa district, topped the district with 111, 137 votes.
While Mr Sirisena did not receive any portfolio, SLFP members Nimal Siripala De Silva and Mahinda Amaraweera, who contested under the banner of the SLPP, were appointed Cabinet ministers. Meanwhile, Dayasiri Jayasekara, Duminda Dissanayake and Lasantha Alagiyawanna, who are also SLFP members, received State Ministerial posts.
