President Maithripala Sirisena did not submit any proposal to the Cabinet to appoint Regional Development Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka as the head of the operations of the tri-forces, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament today.
In response to a question by JVP MP Vijitha Herath, the Prime Minister said that at the Cabinet meeting held on April 25, the issue of continuation of essential services without hindrance had been discussed in detail. The Cabinet of Ministers had asked the President and the Prime Minister to appoint a special top level committee to ensure the continuance of essential services in the face of any emergency,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that discussions are underway in this h regards to appoint the committee. “If there is a decision coming from these discussions to assign a role to Minister Fonseka in that committee we could do so,” he said.”
