Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that he does not fear a probe by a new commission set to investigate allegations of corruption in the Health Ministry during the last four years.
“There should be ten commissions appointed instead of one. Only then I can show how I served the innocent patients of this country” Minister Senaratne remarked.
The Health Minister also said that any intelligent official in the commission would understand that there has been no health minister who has worked with such commitment.
He added that the doctors were aware of his efforts to impose a tax on tobacco and introduce a colour coded system to measure the amount of sugar content in drinks.
Mr. Senaratne also claimed that the GMOA objected to the move to decrease sugar tax during the tenure of the so-called Prime Minister for 51 days, merely because several other medical organisations had done the same.
“The GMOA does not feel the need to curb the spread of non-communicable diseases” he added.
Further, the Health Minister said that the ceiling price on 73 essential drugs, the reduction of prices on STENTS used for heart patients along with eye lenses were some of the projects carried out under his purview during the last four years.
He also said that the reports of the World Bank, World Health Organisation and the UNICEF which acknowledged these projects should also be submitted to the committee which will carry out these investigations.
