New regulations that require re-registration of the information of the subscribers who have obtained the SIM cards before August 2, 2019, will be introduced soon.
The Cabinet has granted approval for the proposal that was presented by the president.
Re-registration is needed as the database does not have information regarding all subscribers who registered before 2019-08-02, which has been a cause of multiple issues during investigations related to national security, a Cabinet Memorandum said.
The need has arisen to amend the existing procedure to align with current requirements, including the inclusion of provisions for registering individuals aged between 16 and 17 and issuing SIM cards to foreign tourists, the note added.
