The National Police Commission (NPC) reversed its decision to halt the transfer of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) OIC Chief Police Inspector Neville de Silva yesterday (Mar 28).
The Commission had done so after taking into consideration a request put forward by IGP Pujith Jayasundara, an NPC Spokesman told local media.
Previously, OIC de Silva had appealed against his transfer at the NPC by claiming that attempts were being made to transfer him since he failed to abide by the instructions of two high-ranking police officials to carry out an unlawful task.
He also claimed that sufficient evidence was available to prove that he had received such instructions from two higher officials of the Police.
Following this appeal, the NPC which had convened a meeting chaired by Professor Siri Hettige had decided to suspend the transfer of OIC Neville de Silva.
However, after taking into consideration a request made by police chief Pujith Jayasundara, the NPC which convened a meeting yesterday (Mar 28) had decided to reverse its decision and permit the transfer of the CID's OIC.
