The government has decided to limit the number of vehicles entering national parks on a daily basis while also increasing the prices of entry tickets to certain national parks.
A large number of vehicles enter the Yala, Udawalawe, and Kumana national parks thereby casuing disruption to wildlife conservation activities, officials at the Wildlife conservation department said.
Accordingly, ithe number of vehicles entering the Yala national park which is estimated to be around 500 will be reduced to 400 per day.
An official at the department said that the limitation of vehicles will be initially imposed on the Yala national park.
Meanwhile, discussions are currently underway to increase the entry prices of tickets to certain national parks.
In addition, a mechanism to purchase online tickets for foreigners will also be made available from January 14.
