Police have commenced investigations to the indentity of a youth group who shared semi-nude photographs taken on top of the Pidurangala Rock.
The police say that legal action will be taken against the youths under the Obscene Publications Amendment Act No.22 of 1983 and the Police Ordinance.
Meanwhile the Chief Incumbent of the Pidurangala Raja Maha Viharaya Venerable Dr. Daniyagama Ananda Thera called on the police to arrest the individuals immediately and institute legal action against them.
Speaking at an event at the Pidurangala Raja Maha Viharaya, the Thera also noted that the group of youths had insulted the country’s history and Buddhist culture. He also requested young individuals to refrain from destroying the culture and heritage of the country through indescent acts.
Speaking at an event at the Pidurangala Raja Maha Viharaya the venerable said a complaint was lodged with Police pertaining to the incident.
The thera charged that the group posed semi-nude on top of the Pidurangala Rock facing Sigiriya and created an uproar both locally and internationally on social media.
