A suspect who had solicited a bribe by falsely promising to secure the release of three suspects arrested on terrorism charges, has been apprehended today (Sept 19).
M.Y. Mohamed Ismath, 48, is alleged to have obtained Rs 1.7 million from the relatives of the suspects by promising to bribe the relevant officials to secure their release, police said.
The suspects had been arrested in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks, out of which one is under custody the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) while two are under the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID).
An investigation had been launched by the TID to apprehend the suspect after the CID had received a complaint to that effect.
