An individual was arrested over the illegal posession of explosives in Hambantota yesterday (May 14), police said.
According to the Police, the suspect, who ran a quarry had violated his quarry license by being in the possession of a shot gun and some explosives.
In addition, 100 kilos of ammonium nitrate, 50 spools of thread which were each 100 metres in length, one kilo of black powder, 174 gelatnite sticks and 260 detonators were seized at the time of the arrest.
The suspect is due to be produced before the Hambantota Magistrate's court in near future.
