A 79-year-old man was killed during a fire which engulfed a house on Rudra Mawatha in Wellawatta this afternoon.
Police said fire engines dispatched from the Mount Lavinia Fire Brigade, assisted by police and area residents, managed to douse the fire, which had swept through a house on 57 Lane along Rudra Mawatha.
A 79-year-old male was killed in the blaze. No reason for the fire has yet been determined and Wellawatta police are conducting further investigations.
