One person was killed and seven others injured after a bus skidded off the road and fell into the Nonagama tank in Ambalantota.
The bus that met with the accident was a private bus headed from Colombo to Kataragama. The driver had lost control of the bus as it was taking the bend near the Nonagama tank, resulting in the vehicle hitting several telephone poles before falling into the tank.
Hungama police, which is investigating the incident, said initial inquiries had revealed that the reason for the accident was due to the high speed of the bus.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Nonagama. The bus sustained severe damage in the incident. Further investigations are underway.
