An individual who attempted to smuggle out foreign currency worth around Rs 8.9 million was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (Jul 21).
The arrest had been carried out when the suspect was about to board flight AI 274 which was to depart to India, the customs department said.
Customs officials had recovered Saudi Riyal notes worth SAR 190,000 from the backpack of the 23-year old suspect.
Further investigations continue.
