An individual has been nabbed while attempting to smuggle 1.4 kilograms of a narcotic identified as 'ice', by officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau.
The arrest had been carried out at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) when the suspect had arrived from Chennai, India.
Another person who had arrived in a van to pick-up the visitor upon arrival to the country, had also been apprehended over charges of abetting the smuggling of narcotics.
Police have identified the suspect as a 33-year old resident of Katugastota, while the driver has been identified as a 24-year old resident of Matale.
They are expected to be detained for seven days in order to conduct further inquiries after being produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s court.
