M J Mohamed Mufa who was deported from Dubai yesterday (Apr 08) has been released following questioning by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Mufa had arrived along with M.N. Mohamed Fazier after they were arrested with underworld criminal 'Makandure Madush' yesterday.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said that warrants had been previously issued on Faizer over two crimes last year.
The first was in August 26 last year when the suspect had driven a motorcycle that was involved in shooting a woman to death in Maligawatte, Mr. Gunasekara noted.
He added that the suspect was also directly involved in a shooting incident that was reported on September 12 last year in the vicinity of the Laksetha Sevana housing complex in Maligawatte.
The police spokesman also said that these crimes were carried out with the assistance of ‘Kanjipaani Imran’ another underworld criminal who was deported from Dubai recently.
Following yesterday’s deportation of two suspects, the total number of individuals who have been deported stands at 15.
Eight individuals have been released following questioning by the CID while one has been released on bail.
Four suspects including actor Ryan Van Rooyen have been remanded while ‘Kanjipaani Imran’ has been detained for further questioning under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
