An online petition has been set up calling for justice for Prof Saumya Liyanage, who has been removed from his post as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Visual & Performing Arts.
The decision has been taken by the University Council chaired by the Competent Authority of the university, Professor Emeritus Abeyratne Bandara.
The petition on change.org directed to the Presidential Secretariat, notes that the surprising decision to remove Prof. Liyanage was taken abruptly without any justification and implemented with immediate effect without holding any preliminary and formal inquiry or without even waiting for the confirmation of the minutes of the meeting.
The petition has now reached nearly 5000 signatures. The petition can be accesed here
