More than 100 trade unions have pledge support for an island wide strike on Friday demanding a solution for three issues including the SAITM dispute.
The trade union told a press conference in Colombo today that they will go ahead their strike unless the demands are met before Friday.
The two other demands are the call to stop the sale of state ventures and halting the new pension scheme.
Among unions supporting the strike are those in the medical, transport, education, electricity, petroleum and customs sectors.
The Secretary of the Government Medical Officials Association Dr Navin de Soysa said that many trade unions protested on many issues at many occasions but they did not receive solutions and therefore decided on join the union action
He said that over 25 unions have already decided to withdraw themselves from service completely inorder to deliver a message to the government that trade unions will not be intimidated to the threats of groups of ministers who challenge their union action.
“ These Ministers do not find solutions for the SAITM issue but aggregate the issue”, he said.
