Over 30 cell phones and other equipment were confiscated from prisoners during a raid conducted in three prisons, local media reported.
The raid is said to have been carried out at the Colombo Remand, Magazine and Welikada prisons.
According to reports, over 30 cell phones were found in the possession of female inmates while over eight phones were found to be in possession of male inmates.
A Ministerial level investigation will be held into the items that were seized, a senior official of the Prisons Department told media
The final rites of veteran broadcaster, writer, and lyricist Nirmala de Alwis will be held today at Peradeniya.
