A total of 40,290 individuals were arrested following 14 special raids that were carried out under the instructions of IGP Pujith Jayasundara last year.
Accordingly, 12,984 warranted suspects were arrested while 9087 individuals were arrested over the possession of illegal drugs, Police Spokeman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He added that 10,305 individuals who were being hunted by the Police were also arrested during the raids last year.
In addtion, 7090 drivers were taken into custody for committing drunk driving offences while 771 were arrested for illegal acts such as sand mining.
49 individuals who were found to have possessed firearms without a valid license had also been arrested during the last 12 months.
