The Pakistan's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, arrived to Sri Lanka, yesterday on a official visit, Defence Ministry said. The visiting Pakistani CJCSC, who arrived to the island making a four-day official visit, was welcomed by the Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ravindra C Wijegunaratne and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.
The High Commissioner for Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat was also present at the occasion. During his stay in the country General Hayat is expected to call on the President, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and the tri-service Commanders. He is also scheduled to deliver a guest lecture at the Sapugaskanda Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC).
Born into a military family, General Zubair Mahmood Hayat joined the Pakistan Army in 1978. He assumed office in his present post in November, 2016. General Hayat is also the senior most four star military officer of the Islamic republic. He is a recipient of the Nishan-e-Imtiaz medal.
