A state hospital at Laggala, Matale has come to a standstill when the hospital closed on December 24, 25 and 26 as the doctors had gone on medical leave, villagers said.
The villagers said the Pallegama Divisional Hospital had been closed for three days while 30 patients warded, were told to go home.
They said not a single doctor was assigned to carry out treatment.
"A notice was displayed stating that the hospital will be closed for three days. Work at the entire hospital came to a standstill due to this," villagers were quoted as saying.
