Security forces uncovered a parcel of explosives hidden in a cave in the Madatugama area this afternoon (Aug 11).
The explosives were recovered with the assistance of the Air Force an the Special Task Force (STF) in a cave behind the Madatugama village in a protected forest reserve.
It is believed that the explosives were concealed for the purpose of committing a crime and may have been placed there a few months before hand.
Police is continuing further investigations into the matter.
