Parliament debates NYT allegations: Mahinda absent
The parliamentary debate into allegations made in the New York Times investigation, which contained allegations of corruption against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, commenced this morning.
However, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was not present in parliament when the debate began. Mr Rajapaksa is currently overseas.
MP Thushara Indunil tabled the motion for the debate while MP Mujibur Rahman seconded it.
At one point during the debate, the Serjeant-at-Arms rang the bell after to summon MPs after the Joint Opposition claimed there was no quorum in parliament for the debate.
